How it works
- Import DOCX — Drop your Word file or use the import page. Lexon reads .docx and parses headings, lists, and tables.
- Convert locally — Conversion happens in your browser. No upload, no server. Your documents never leave your device.
- Edit in Markdown — Write with a rich editor or raw Markdown. Add LaTeX math and syntax-highlighted code blocks.
- Export MD/HTML/PDF — Save as Markdown, HTML, or print to PDF. Your content stays portable and future-proof.
Convert Word Documents to Clean Markdown
Microsoft Word is great for collaboration, but when you need portability, version control, or a future-proof format, Markdown wins. Converting DOCX to Markdown gives you plain text with simple formatting—headings, lists, links, and tables—that works everywhere.
Common pain points when switching from Word: complex styles that don't map cleanly, embedded images that need separate handling, and tables that become messy. Lexon uses Mammoth.js under the hood to convert Word documents while preserving structure. Headings become # H1, ## H2; bullet and numbered lists map to - and 1.; links and images come through as [text](url). Tables are rendered as Markdown tables.
Privacy matters. Lexon runs entirely in your browser. When you convert DOCX to Markdown, the file never leaves your device. No account, no cloud upload. The same applies when you use the offline Markdown editor—your documents are stored in IndexedDB and stay local.
After conversion, you can edit in a rich WYSIWYG-style view or raw Markdown. Add LaTeX math with KaTeX and syntax-highlighted code blocks. When you're done, export to PDF via print, or export as HTML or plain Markdown. For technical docs and academic notes, the Markdown editor with LaTeX support makes equations and code straightforward.
